One of the most important tools for a journey through unfamiliar territory is a good compass. Several years ago I got lost in the woods behind our home. A good compass was what I needed to find my way back to the road.
Our world lacks a good moral compass. Our church group and regular Bible study is the compass we need to stay on the right path and the tool to find our way back to the path that leads us home.
Everyone needs to be involved in regular group Bible study. We have classes on Sunday mornings at 10:00 and Wednesday evenings at 6:30. As disciples we need to be continuing our education in the lord’s way. I urge you to join us for our scheduled classes. The Lord will provide you with the compass to stay on the right path! God bless, Dave
Identity!
“My name is Thomas Campbell. I was born in Scotland in 1763 and went on to become a Presbyterian Minister. I immigrated to the United States in 1807 and settled in Western Pennsylvania. Shortly thereafter, the Presbyterian Synod suspended my ministerial credentials because I wouldn’t preach on issues not found in the Holy Scriptures. I played a major role in the American Restoration Movement from which the churches of Christ came to be about.
In 1809, I published The Declaration and Address of the Christian Association of Washington (Washington County, Pennsylvania). Many point to that document as the start of our movement. I went on to organize the Christian Association of Washington, not as a church but as an association of persons seeking to grow in faith.”
Why is there a "Church of Christ"? What makes this group of believers different from any other? This series will look at the doctrinal and philosophical underpinnings of the churches of Christ, their history, their mistakes, and their triumphs. We will look at who we were, who we are, and who we want to be.
Join us on Wednesday nights starting March 10th as Jesse leads us through a series of lessons called, “Identity.”
*SERMON THIS WEEK*
Becoming a Christian—Part 3 What Is Salvation?
The following facts have been established in our previous lessons on “Becoming a Christian.”
· Everyone sins and the penalty of sin is death;
· Jesus died to save individuals from the penalty of sin;
Our next question is, “How Can I Be Saved?” Can we earn salvation by doing good deeds and living good lives” Why don’t we look at the Bible to answer that question.
1. The first response to receive salvation is to ________________ (Acts 16:30-33)
2. We must be willing to openly _________________ our belief (Romans 10:9-10)
3. Confession of belief in Christ will lead us to ____________ (Acts 3:19-20)
4. Believers must be _______________ to have their sins forgiven (Acts 2:38)
When we consult the Bible for our answers, it becomes evident that the good deeds that save us are the obedience of Jesus—not us! Salvation is the acceptance of the work done by Christ on the cross. Bring your Bibles to church Sunday! God bless, Dave
