With December and January in the books and February and March still ahead of us we find ourselves smack dab in the middle of winter. As I write this article, fluffy white snowflakes like big balls of cotton are falling from the sky and blanketing the ground. We seem to have arrived at that time of the year when it snows a little bit most every day. Although this can be quite tiresome when it comes to shoveling, there is also the benefit of the bright clean look all around us. Living in town we receive lots of sand and salt on the street which results in what I like to refer to as dirty snow. So I am always thankful when we get a fresh covering to whiten things up again.
When we are baptized into Christ Jesus, all of our sins are washed away by the blood of Christ. We arise out of the water cleansed of our sins receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. (See Acts 2:38) Do you remember the day you surrendered your life over to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and were freed from the bondage of sin? Your load was lightened and your outlook brightened. Then as you went on your journey the road of life was dusty and dirty. You tripped and fell a few times, (maybe quite a few times) into sinful behavior. Yet instead of remaining stuck in the mire and the muck, you were cleansed again by the blood of Christ.
Part of the good news is that the mercies of our Lord are new every morning and His faithfulness is always great. Not unlike the fresh snow that once again makes the dirty snow white, we are cleansed daily by the blood of Christ. And for this we can all be thankful.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9)
“Come now let us reason together says the LORD. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; thought they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best form the land.” (Isaiah 1:18-20)
